Seat Belts
- Compulsory in front seats and rear seats.
- Under 12 years are not allowed in front unless in an approved seat or harness.
Motorways
- There is a good network of toll-free motorways (autoroutes).
- A minimum speed of 70 km/hr applies unless otherwise stated.
Drinking and Driving
The level of alcohol in the blood must be below 0.5 g/l.
Minimum Tyre Depth
1.8mm.
Fines
Police are authorised to impose and collect fines on the spot. They must issue a receipt for the amount paid.
Parking
A Blue Zone system operates in major towns. Discs are available from police, garages and tobacconists.

Additional Notes
- A maximum of 10 litres of spare fuel may be carried in an approved can.
- Most petrol stations closed from 20:00 to 08:00 and all day Sunday.
- The flashing of headlights is used as a warning.
- Dipped headlights should be used between dusk and dawn.
- Driving on side lights only is illegal.
- Be prepared to give way to vehicles joining from the right.
